Jesus Wants Our Brokenness!
The Person God Uses
Jeremiah 15:18 (NIV)18 Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable?
You are to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails. 19 Therefore this is what the Lord says: “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me;
if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman.
Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.
20 I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you
but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the Lord.
21 “I will save you from the hands of the wicked and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.”
1–We must be broken for ourselves (sin)
Psalm 139:23-24 3 Search
me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in
the way everlasting.
Psalm 51 in your Bible
Luke 18:9-14 – The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Broken Under Discipline
2.We Must Be Broken For Others
Jeremiah 8:18–22
18 My joy is gone; grief is upon me; my heart is sick within me. 19 Behold, the cry of the daughter of my people from the length and breadth of the land: “Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King not in her?” “Why have they provoked me to anger with their carved images and with their foreign idols?” 20 “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” 21 For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?
3.We must give our brokenness to God.
Jeremiah 12:1 (ESV)
Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
THE PERSON THAT GOD USES IS…
- Broken for their own sin.
- Broken for others.
- One who gives their brokenness to God
