The Lord has been faithful in providing many opportunities for ministry during my time here in the Philippines. Thank you for your prayers. CLICK LINK ABOVE for REST of BLOG
On Saturday I presented a conference on discipleship to the small group leaders of Grace Christian Church. The church operates a Christian school with 3,000 students and a Bible College. The church is struggling to keep members, many of whom get saved and then soon slip away. It was exciting to share the principles of discipleship that have helped us at Faith Bible Church. Our missionary Jonel Arcedera will assist the church as they implement the Foundation of the Faith discipleship book.
On Sunday I preached at Gerizim Baptist Church in Manila. After lunch I presented an abbreviated version of the discipleship workshop. They responded with great enthusiasm because they are already using the Foundation for the Faith discipleship material. It was a joy to share a passion for discipleship with them.
I’ve been at the Word of Life camp and Bible Institute since Sunday evening. My purpose for being here is to teach a 20 hour course on Pastoral Epistles, and a 10 hour course on Pastoral Leadership. Many of the BI students were in previous classes. The students who were here in 2009 remember the FBC members who came to help with last year’s Living Christmas Tree. One of the new students in named Jan Paul. They call him “JP,” so I’ve adopted him as my temporary grandson, until I get back home to see our own JP.
I will also be teaching a Hermeneutics Conference for pastors and the WOL students. FBC missionary David James from the Alliance for Biblical Integrity will be teaching the conference with me. Please pray for many pastors to attend. There are dangerous theological teachings that affect believers in the Philippines. The pastors here need a strong foundation so that they can identify spiritual error – a foundation formed through a commitment to the Word and through sound methods of interpretation.
Pray also for Jonel and Eunice Arcedera. They have a 6 week old baby named Addi. She is a tiny sweet baby, but her birth was very complicated for her and Eunice. Eunice is recovering now, and Addi is well, but Eunice was in grave danger at the time of delivery and almost died during the complicated Cesarean birth. Pray that the Lord will strengthen mommy and child, and provide for the payment of their medical expenses.
